President Increases Disaster Assistance to Eastern Band of Cherokees

Today President Obama made additional disaster assistance available to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. He authorized an increase in the level of federal funding for Public Assistance projects undertaken by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians as a result of severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides for the period of January 14-17.

A Muslim female going to college today was stopped by 2 men from getting on a bus bcoz she was a niqabi. They pulled her scarf and niqab. The incident took place in Brownfield area in poplar 339 bus stop.

So far action taken by Aasha Mediation Committee are:

1) Police have been notified

2) Individuals from Poplar will keeping a high presence in the area

3) Aasha has written an email to the acting borough commander nd chief inspector with details of the above incident. We are pressing them to take urgent action.

1,500 rally for Mark Carson in NYC - It was New York City’s largest LGBT rally in years, according to organizers. On Monday at least 1,500 people showed up to honor the life of Mark Carson and make a stand against the hate that led to his death. Carson was an openly gay 32-year-old black man who was shot and killed over the weekend in what authorities are investigating as an anti-gay hate crime.

The randomness of Carson’s death has shocked the city’s LGBT community. “Mark is not going to die in vain. We are not going to get beat up in vain,” one rally participant told Mother Jones. “Gay rights, we’re still fighting for them, and the fight is not over. We need to protect each other.”

I do assert that certain violent ideologies have attached themselves to Islam, using the religion as a memetic vector which has a higher incidence of transfer than the violent ideologies that attach themselves to Christianity, Buddhism, Liberalism, or the psychedelic movement. If someone wants peace, they can find it in Islam. If someone wants a justification for violence, they can ALSO find it in Islam. Because Islam was founded as a religion of peace when it was a bunch of goatherds worshipping a divine revelation, but it’s founder went on to actively seek out and kill Christians and Jews. He personally killed 100 in a single day.

hackr: First of all, nice #tag making it sound as if I’m not open-minded when you don’t even know me. Pardon? We agreed that it’s totally not cool for people to defend radicalized holy warriors. And I’m not trolling. As hard as it is to believe, there really are people trying to defend the murder and decapitation of a soldier in broad daylight by a pair of men chanting Islamic slogans.

Regardless of what you think of the religion, you have to agree that there is a high volume of religiously minded fanatics who are willing to harm others and believe that Islam is not a religion of peace.

I’ve merely provided my relatively harmless explanation, that radical groups take advantage of Islam and produce violent radicals. If you have an alternate explanation for the incidence of Islamic violence, please provide it.

My comment isn’t about a murderer who’s mental breakdown was obviously brought about by our wars [I’m American]. It is also about Ahmed Abu-Ali, Tarek Mehanna, the majority of Gitmo prisoners, Aafia Siddiqui, and countless others who didn’t even need to steal a pack of gum—but just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time while Muslim—and therefore labelled as terrorists.

However, yesterday the Gillard government excised Australia from the migration zone. What does this mean? This means that anyone who arrives on the mainland, without a visa, cannot claim asylum and are susceptible to immediate deportation to offshore processing facilities. In doing this, they are robbing PEOPLE (just like you and me) of the right to legal appeal, representation or the Australian court system. This country seems to have forgotten that it is a basic human right to seek asylum and NOT ILLEGAL. And that 94% of those who have sought asylum in Australia have been found to be genuine refugees.
