Immigrant Stories: How did you come to US?

Celebrating the Immigrant in all of US--even you, yes you
songofablackbird:

I encourage you to write a letter to the editor protesting this racist, Islamophobic cartoon in the New York Post.  http://www.nypost.com/sendletter
My response:
I was appalled to see a cartoon in the February 24 issue of the New York Post depicting three Muslim men calling the Associated Press in the midst of mantling bombs. This is the type of cartoon that anchors prejudice against Islam in our society.  It contributes to the notion that all Muslims act in a certain way, and allows us to put them in a separate category from ourselves.  It is cartoons like this that justify our war in the Middle East,  Islamophobic airport screenings, indefinite detentions, and use of cruel and unusual punishments on presumed criminals.
I am as appalled as I was when learned of the cartoons that came out of Germany in the 1940s in response to the ‘Jewish Problem’. I would like to request that you look more critically at the content you decide to publish in your newspaper, and that Mr. Delonas look more critically at his art before submitting it where the already uninformed public can make snap judgements on the character of our Muslim comrades.
